Tango Room

We were ecstatic to be working with Headington Companies, along with our friend Joe Cole, on a steak-and-wine oriented bistro in Dallas’ design district. The ask was different from the then-usual Baldridge fare. The Tango creative team did not want modern, it wanted a bistro with some programmatic wrinkles. A bit about the design below.
COVID 19 cut the project short and Joe Cole departed to New York. In the end, after a full construction, Headington let us know that it’s future was uncertain. Accordingly, we were happy to see the email blast when it opened with our design intact, augmented by art from Tim Headington’s impressive mid-century collection (curated and placed by Jean Liu).

About the design. Joe Cole had us looking to art nouveau bistros for inspiration (that guy always has a specific vibe in mind). Baldridge was intrigued by restaurants like Chez Omar (Paris) and Café St. Honoré (Edinburgh) that feature vaulted and coffered, lacquered ceilings that have patinaed to a yellow over the decades.
At the time, we were working to dispel the myth that we only designed in one mode. It is unlike our other work, but shares the rigor and attention to craft and detailing.
