Burton worked on this backyard project on weekends for years. He jokes that you should never let an architect do a child’s job. Friends at Athena Manufacturing helped by coating the broken steel cladding OSHA yellow. To some extent, this project epitomizes our work in that it takes the mission of its program seriously yet strives for something elegant and (almost deceptively) simple.
While Burton’s children are growing up, the playground serves as a place for sleepovers when the weather is mild. While most playground equipment is an ugly assortment of cedar, garishly colored polystyrene and CPSC approved appurtenances, Burton and Lynn never grow tired of seeing this structure in their back yard.
