West Lynn Studio

This small but striking structure is the re-imagining of an existing masonry warehouse attached to a shabby but beloved 1950s TV repair shop. We baked-in details that demonstrated first-hand how a project can be simultaneously simple and dynamic, minimalist and warm, off-putting and inviting. The project is simple, efficient, iconic, and (by necessity) inexpensive.
-
There was a bit of agit-prop here. We were trying to demonstrate to our
potential clients what might be done with a simple idea and a tight budget.
-
We acted as the general contractor with Burton (Baldridge) and members of the firm each contributing skills to build the space. We jettisoned design-build as a model in 2010, but it is in our DNA. It is a simple structure, but the clarity and details make it sing.

In its inauspicious context, the structure sits, unapologetic and simple, precise but effortless, striking but obvious. The poetic resolution is born of clear thinking, precise detailing, and careful craft. West Lynn currently serves as joint offices for another small architecture practice and an interiors design firm.
