St. Edward’s Main Building
-
In 2015, concurrent with the Holy Cross Hall project, St. Edward’s University engaged us to assemble a team to fully refurbish the exterior of this iconic 1903 building. We worked with Architexas to replace the windows, repoint the stone, install a new roof, and accommodate new air-conditioning.
After the success of the combined Holy Cross / Main Building projects, we were subsequently engaged to provide accent lighting to the building’s exterior and then a second time to renovate the main floor of the building – refinishing and furnishing the historic corridors and stair, while creating a welcome center and new offices for the president. Originally this was conceived of as a sequential refurbishment of the entire building interior. COVID 19 halted the project at the first phase. We love the results.

Casey Dunn photographed this during the height of pre-vaccine COVID 19. The masks in these photos will forever tie this project to a moment in time. The masked models are the members our firm along with Burton Baldridge’s somewhat hippie-looking son. There is an eeriness to the photos that captures the moment. True to form, we leaned in.

The COVID 19 era photo-shoot was not especially efficient. Not captured in Casey’s photos is the work we did in the corridors. It was mainly an operation of working with our friends to quiet the work from the 80’s back down. The rendering below shows where we were headed… it looks like that. Except there is furniture and there are people who have actual shadows.
