Branch House
-
Branch House is a home for a family of four in south Austin. The residence maximizes use of a deep cul-de-sac property overlooking the Barton Creek Greenbelt.
Taking cues from this spectacular site, the home is designed to conceal, then reveal, the view beyond. Its form, one room deep, threads between
the existing trees and opens to the south. Starting from a minimal façade, visitors arrive through an extended entry sequence that culminates in a landscaped courtyard. Only then are the home’s great room, outdoor living area, and natural panorama revealed. The resulting architecture afford its residents different experiences throughout the house—at places cozy and nest-like, and at others bright and dramatic, open to the view beyond.
-
This home, with its sectional interplay, is ambitious in form and detailing. Its spaces were realized on a strict budget in Austin’s booming construction economy with its original form and expression fully intact.
