We were approached to design a house at the foot of the Tetons in Driggs, Idaho. Drawn to the idea of doing something unusual and unexpected with an A-frame we carried this scheme through design development. The clients had requested that the plan be fitted out almost like a boat, with lofts, nooks and built in appurtenances. The apparent formal complexity is largely an illusion as the principal volume is made from a single, unbroken A-frame.
Unfortunately, partially as a result of the sudden and rapid economic recovery, we were unable to find a builder in Driggs who wished to take on an idiosyncratic structure with a tight budget no matter how simple the finishes. While we have drawn a far simpler scheme for our clients, we would love to see this built.
